Detailed Introduction Technical Documents

Features

Unlock previously unavailable test capabilities: explore new testing territories with real-time mode, sequence generation and deep memory.

Functions

Sampling rate up to 65 GSa/s

High channel density: each module provides 1, 2 or 4 channels. Up to 16 channels across 4 modules can be synchronized with the M8197A multi-channel synchronization module

Built-in frequency and phase response calibration

Embedded DSP enables real-time waveform and impairment generation (when used with 81195A optical modulation generator software)

High Performance

Each AXIe module features 25 GHz analog bandwidth and 2 GSa memory, expandable up to 16 GSa

The 16 GSa extended memory enables generation of PRBS patterns from PRBS7, PRBS10, PRBS11, PRBS15 up to PRBS31 (calculation and loading of long PRBS patterns into the arbitrary waveform generator's waveform memory will take a considerable amount of time)

Output amplitude up to 1 Vpp (single-ended) or 2 Vpp (differential)

Symbol rate exceeds 32 GBaud

Fully pre-configured, including:

M8195A Arbitrary Waveform Generator (AWG)

AXIe chassis connectivity to embedded controller or external PC

M8070A system software for M8000 Series BER test solutions delivers additional functionality

Key Applications

As device and interface speeds continue to increase and complexity grows, the rich feature set of the M8195A Arbitrary Waveform Generator enables you to generate the required signals for digital applications, optoelectronic communications, advanced research, broadband radar, satellite communications and more.

Coherent optical communication — a single M8195A module can generate two independent I/Q baseband signals (dual polarization = 4 channels) with symbol rates at or exceeding 32 GBaud

Multi-level/multi-channel digital signals — capable of generating signals with symbol rates up to 32 GBaud, such as NRZ, PAM4, PAM8, DMT, etc. It also supports protocols including HDMI™, C-PHY™ and D-PHY™. Supports channel embedding/de-embedding, adding jitter, ISI, noise and other distortions

Research in physics, chemistry and electronics — generates arbitrary waveforms with strict mathematical definitions, accurate ultrashort pulses and ultra-wideband chirp

Broadband RF/microwave — generates ultra-wideband RF signals with instantaneous bandwidth from DC to 25 GHz, suitable for aerospace, defense and communications applications

Application-specific random interference (RI) sources require the use of M8070A

The Keysight M8195A Arbitrary Waveform Generator (AWG) provides up to 4 output channels on a single-slot AXIe module, with sampling rate up to 65 GSa/s, bandwidth up to 25 GHz, and 8-bit vertical resolution.

As device and interface speeds get faster and complexity grows, the rich feature set of the M8195A AWG enables you to generate the required signals for digital applications, advanced research, broadband radar, satellite communications, optical fiber communications and more.

Advanced 3-level sequence generation enables longer-duration signal scenarios. An external dynamic control option is available when using the M8197A to synchronize multiple M8195A modules.

The M8195A Arbitrary Waveform Generator provides trigger input, and when used in combination with the M8197A multi-channel synchronization module, it achieves a time delay accuracy of ±20 ps.

When used with N5990A software options 151 and 153, the M8195A can deliver HDMI and MHL receiver test solutions.

The M8195A Arbitrary Waveform Generator can also be controlled by the M8070A bit error ratio test system software equipped with the M8085A software plug-in to generate test signals compliant with MIPI C-PHY™ and D-PHY™ standards.

When combined with the 81195A optical modulation generator software, the M8195A Arbitrary Waveform Generator provides an innovative real-time signal generation method that can speed up your test by 100 times.

It supports real-time generation of signals and impairments. Equipped with FIR filters and other DSP functions, it enables pulse shaping and adjustment of optical stress test conditions, such as polarization mode dispersion (PMD) or phase noise.

With real-time mode, sequence generation capability and deep memory, you can break through previous limitations, explore new test fields and embrace new opportunities.

Additional information:

The M8195A is also available via the M8195S system software suite. M8195S can be dynamically configured according to your required number of channels. In addition to the module itself, AXIe chassis, embedded controller or external PC connectivity can be added automatically. Furthermore, the entire system is pre-configured before delivery.
